Message for Parents from the Mathematics Department

FAO Parents

As you are aware the Mathematics department is committed to ensuring all pupils have the opportunity to reach their full potential and are supported to do so. Currently your child, is in Year 10/11 and studying for his/her GCSE Mathematics during year 11 and has a target grade of a C/D in Mathematics.

In school we provide a range of different supports and I know that many parents also wish to provide excellent support at home but sometimes struggle with either the Mathematical content or “newer” methods that students are taught.  I’m therefore pleased to offer all parents the opportunity to attend parent classes in Mathematics.  The aim of these sessions is to support your child through their GCSE’s.

The course is very flexible, it is taught on an evening and at a time to suit the majority of people and will be held at St Bede’s School.  There are no tests but if parents wish to they could study for a qualification.  The classes are completely free of charge and are run by Adult Education Services.  Last year’s sessions were very successful indeed some parents even went on to take their Level 2 Mathematics qualification. Last year the programme ran where parents and students attended sessions so both child and parent were able to support each other.

The weekly sessions will start in February and in order for them to be funded we need a minimum of 10 parents to participate.  Places are limited and if you wish to secure your place please email: g.broughton@melior.org.uk or contact me at school.  Please confirm the place by Friday 20th January.

I hope that you agree that this is an excellent way in which the school and yourself could work together to support your child in achieving an excellent GCSE grade in Mathematics.
